Discovering and Accessing Resources Within Insights

Who can discover resources within Insights?

Anyone can search and discover anything published and available to the public. Current faculty and staff should log in with their UT EID and password to view and discover all campus resources published within Insights. Please note that while all faculty and staff can discover all resources - access to viewing the specific resource is limited by the resource owner via Active Directory Groups (and may require a UT VPN connection).

Do I have to be logged in to discover resources within Insights?

No. But you won’t see all the resources available to you, you will only see public resources. Faculty and staff should be sure they are logged in with their UT EID and password to ensure they can see everything.

What is the difference between discovering a resource vs. accessing a resource?

The Insights Service is meant to provide faculty and staff a way of discovering shared campus resources. While you may be able to find and see that a resource is published - you may not be able to access [engage and interact with] the data or information.

Access to each resource is managed by its respective creator or owner. Access to D2I-owned resources is controlled using UT’s Active Directory Groups. Should you find yourself at the point where you see ‘access denied’ – please don’t click the ‘request access’ link. Instead, contact the report owner – this can be found by clicking the “i” in the bottom right of the resource task.

Navigating Insights

What is a “Task”? A task is simply the tool’s name for a single resource.
What does “Task Center” refer to? A task center is a group of resources that has been curated according to a theme.
What do the “Categories” refer to? Categories are broad tags that aggregate reports by theme.
Any tips on using the search bar to locate a resource? Use good keyword search behavior. Try using a variety of terms and avoid being overly specific.

Sharing Resources Within Insights

Who can upload resources to Insights? Requests from all areas of campus will be considered. Please contact insights@utexas.edu if you have resources you would like added.
How does D2I ensure the data and/or information in the resource has been validated and is correct? Is there a method to ensure it can be trusted? D2I does not validate resources that we do not create or own. You can see who published a resource via the icon displayed. Each owner is responsible for their own validation. D2I-owned resources are extensively validated and can be considered trusted information.
What is the process for submitting a resource to be uploaded to Insights?

Use the Insights Resource Submission form or e-mail us at insights@utexas.edu should you have questions.

What types of resources can be submitted? Resources are a link to an item hosted elsewhere. The item hosted elsewhere can be in any format such as a Tableau dashboard, a web page, a report, PDFs, or a Box folder or file, to name some examples.
Will D2I recruit CSUs to publish specific resources they think might be useful for campus? Yes. D2I will be proactive and intentional in building a strategy to populate Insights with trusted reports and analytics.
